North American Branch update, January 2010

Southfork Ranch mansion drivewayThe Maple Society, North American Branch, completed another successful annual meeting this past Autumn. The Portland, Oregon conference was all, and more, than we could possibly expect to pack into three days and evenings. The committee is to be sincerely complemented for this successful event of ’09.

At the time of this writing, January ’10, the leaves have fallen, the ice is covering the beautiful bare bark, and I sit by the window admiring the skeleton trees in the woods beyond, and dreaming of the wonderful Spring temperatures and beautiful foliage ahead.

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all members, and anyone interested in maples to attend the ’10 conference in Dallas, Texas.

The conference will be October 28-30th. There will be an opening night reception on the 28th at the yet-to-be-selected hotel, with talks, tours and banquets over the next two days and evenings. There will be superb speakers, great tours, fantastic food and much Texas fun over the course of the two days of the conference. Those who attended the opening night reception in Portland know what a fun time we all had getting reacquainted with those we had not seen for some time.

There will be a Mexican Fiesta on the evening of the 29th, with the best Mexican food available. Hopefully, we will be able to have some entertainment without disturbing other patrons in the restaurant.

So, everyone, pack your jeans and head on down to Texas in late October! In the event you are not familiar with Southfork Ranch, it is the location of the filming of the ever-so-popular, and long-running TV hit show, DALLAS. Now, I cannot promise you will see JR, but, we will have fun.

This message is being posted early so that as many interested parties as possible who need to make flight arrangements early may do so. More details will follow in the near future about the conference schedule, with a listing of speakers, and their individual topics. I am able at this time to announce that Hugh Angus and Peter Gregory from the UK will be the TWO feature speakers. We are honored that these two extremely knowledgeable gentlemen have agreed to be with us in Dallas.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the conference in Dallas in October. For additional questions about the Maple Society, North American Branch, feel free to use the contact form on this site.
